About Sound Tester
Sound Tester is a free audio toolbox: a speaker channel test, a headphone pan check, a microphone level meter with playback, a seven-step bass test and a full tone generator — the five checks that answer “is it my gear or my settings?” without installing anything.
Why this toolbox exists
The audio test web is stuck in two eras. One era is utilitarian file dumps — bare test tones with no guidance, aimed at audio engineers. The other is tool farms that bolt a speaker test onto a site that also tests keyboards, mice and air quality, or that lock the useful part (downloads, sweeps, high-sample-rate tones) behind a supporter wall. This site takes the third path: modern, mobile-first, task-oriented — organized around what you are actually trying to do (check new headphones, find out why nothing plays) — and genuinely free, with the paywalled features of other sites included here at no cost.
What it believes
Three principles shape every page. Local by default: tones are synthesized in your browser and your microphone recording never leaves the device — the test works even with your network disconnected. Free means free: no premium tier, no shortened features, no countdown before the tool works. Honest mechanics: we explain what each test can and cannot prove, and the guides recommend the diagnosis order a repair technician would use rather than a random settings checklist.
